MODERN BALLET OF KIEV:
ВOLERO

A one-act ballet to the music of M.Ravel

Choreography and stage direction – Radu Poklitaru
Costume Designer – Anna Ipatyeva
Assistant Choreographer–– Anatoliy Kozlov, Ukraine’s Honoured Artist
Lighting designer – Elena Antokhina
Sound producer – Alexander Kuriy

Since childhood I have been particularly thrilled when listening to "Bolero" by Maurice Ravel. In my ballet family "Bolero" was a sort of legend related to the artistic history of my parents, to their stage successes and the warm remembrance that in "the sixties" there appeared performances different from the traditional white-and-blue palette of the "Swan Lake" and "Giselle".
My version of Ravel's great score seeks to comply, faithfully and sincerely, with the Composer's music thought development. Our production is a story of the continuous, Sisyphean struggle of individuals for the right to have their proper "Ego", their "otherness", for the liberation from the many-headed, multi-handed octopus named "the crowd".
Radu Poklitary

Maurice Ravel’s “Bolero”, this fabulous ballet score of the XX century, has acquired a most unpredictable and daring interpretation in the performance of the “KYIV MODERN-BALLET” Company: it is all permeated with the controversial spirit of our time.
Radu Poklitaru’s choreographic version of this work of genius presents a story of the unending, Sisyphean labour of individuals to have their own EGO, to have the right to “otherness”, to get free from the many-headed, many-handed octopus whose name is “Mob”
The ballet “Bolero” was awarded with the “Kyiv Pectoral-2007” Prize in the nomination “The Event of the Year”.
The ballet “Bolero” was presented to the audience in a number of Ukrainian cities and towns, as well as on tours in Rumania, Moldova, Russia and the Netherlands.

This performance in the Theatre repertory was prompted by the need to enrich the repertory of the Theatre with choreographic miniatures. And still, this practical purpose made me think about how to channel the creative energy of the dancers of «KYIV MODERN-BALLET» Theatre to produce something more important than a mere succession of concert turns. Those ideas were conducive to an unusual scenic form: a number of novellas to ethnic or highly pronounced national music, "cemented" with J.-S. Bach's preludes and fugues from his "Well-Tempered Clavier". The human conglomerate, either darting across the stage or feeling their way through the surrounding world obscurity, is breaking up into duets, trios, or solos, who are telling us their lives’ stories. Upon finishing the story, they seem to be taken up by the crowd, which effaces the illusive traces of their existence.
Radu Poklitaru

“Rain” is a philosophical story shaped as a choreographic suite, telling us about the fates of people who were involuntarily joined in one space at one time. Ethnic music together with the contrasting it music of J.-S. Bach create the effect of the babel of people speaking different languages and form an excellent foundation for the choreography of Radu Poklitaru.
The creative essence of the performance proceeds from its musical idea, thus embodying the author’s conception: various cultures and national mentalities incorporate basic human values.
R.Poklitaru’s direction is focused on people and human feelings and emotions.
The ballet was awarded the prize “Kiev’s Pectoral - 2007” in the nomination “The Event of the Year”.

The ballet “Rain” was presented to the audience in many cities of Ukraine, as well as in Rumania, Moldova, Russia and the Netherlands.

Love is probably the affection that instigated most human thoughts over the centuries, whether in great mythologies, religions, philosophical thoughts, or the arts. All areas discussed in depth the question of love.
But, from a cerebral point of view, how does love behave? How does the brain behave in the face of a passion? What happens inside your brain when you are in love? What are the established connections between body and brain when we are in love? Oxytocin. Dopamine. Serotonin. Motivated body. Reward status. Pleasure.
In his new work the choreographer Clébio Oliveira examines the passion from the point of view of the brain. It’s seems like the brain behaves similar to a state of temporary dementia with characteristics of stress, obsession and compulsion.
